Metro West
Metro Orbital (Metro West) will link the towns of Tallaght, Clondalkin, Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown and will provide a fast commuter service to the city centre, Swords and the airport via Metro North.
Metro Orbital (Metro West) will greatly enhance the connectivity of the whole public transport network, interchanging with the Luas Red Line, the Kildare and Maynooth suburban rail lines, the proposed Lucan Luas Line, with Metro North and many QBCs along the route.
Stops on Metro Orbital are currently proposed at Tallaght East, Colberts Fort, Belgard, Newlands, St. Brigids, Clondalkin, Fonthill, Rowlagh, Quarryvale Park, Porterstown, Millennium Park, Blanchardstown, Tolka Valley, National Aquatic Centre, Ballycoolin, Abbotstown, Cappagh, Huntstown, Meakstown, Silloge, Harristown and Dardistown.
The line will end at the proposed Dardistown Stop where it links with Metro North, just south of Dublin Airport.
Dublin Metro Orbital (Metro West) will be a modern, attractive and highly accessible mass transit system for the commuters of Dublin. It will be similar in concept to Metro systems in many European cities of similar size to Dublin.
Segregation from other road vehicles and users allows the Metro to carry more passengers, at greater speeds and at more frequent intervals than an on-street line. Metro will combine the high level of accessibility associated with light rail with the high level of reliability and fast journey times associated with metro systems.
Metro Orbital (Metro West) will have significant reserve capacity to accommodate the large growth in passenger numbers anticipated in the long term.
Metro Orbital (Metro West) is part of the Government’s transport investment programme.

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) announced on 20th October 2010 its intention to apply to An Bord Pleanála for a Railway Order for Metro West. The railway order, if granted, would permit RPA to construct, operate and maintain the Metro West light railway.
The railway order application is the culmination of a number of years of planning, consultation, assessment and design work. The railway order includes plans and drawings of all the scheme infrastructure, legal documentation and an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the scheme. These documents will be on display at the offices of South Dublin and Fingal County Council, Railway Procurement Agency and An Bord Pleanála from the 29th of October 2010 and also available to view and download from www.dublinmetrowest.ie from the same date.
Metro West will deliver substantial benefits to communities in west Dublin, providing a quality public transport system, employment opportunities during the construction and operation phases, regeneration potential and environmental improvement. Overall Metro West will enhance the quality of life for those who live, work and visit the area.
