Metro North

Metro North will connect Swords to Dublin City Centre. The selected route serves a number of key destinations including the airport, hospitals, universities, retail centres as well as residential and employment districts.

Metro North will be 16.5km long and is expected to carry some 34 million passengers a year once opened. Metro North will offer a reliable frequent service bringing passengers from the City Centre to Dublin Airport in less than 20 minutes and Swords in less than 30 minutes and will avail of a range of interchange opportunities with Luas, Irish Rail services, bus services and park and ride facilities.

Metro North is a key element in the creation of a fully integrated rail based public transport network as envisaged in Government's transport programme. The project is a Public Private Partnership Initiative.

On 27 October 2010, An Bord Pleanála approved the development of Metro North. In doing so, An Bord Pleanála has required RPA to relocate the maintenance depot from its proposed location at Belinstown, north of Swords. On May 10th 2011 RPA placed the Metro North Dardistown Depot and Spoil Management Strategy Railway Order Application documents on display. A copy of the Draft Railway Order and documents accompanying the application can also be downloaded from dedicated website, www.dublinmetronorthdepot.ie
